Yotto does not treat a chord as having one fixed emotion. In a 2019 studio interview, the Finnish producer explained that brighter sounds can read clearly as happy or sad, while detuning and softening them makes the feeling richer and harder to name. That preference for emotional ambiguity has run through Otto Yliperttula’s work since “Memento” and “Azzurro” introduced him on Anjunadeep in 2015. His first album, Hyperfall, followed in 2018, widening the frame beyond individual club records. In 2019 he launched Odd One Out, describing a label as an extension of a DJ’s mind: a way to reveal the music that shapes their sets. His studio combines FL Studio and Ableton with instruments including Moog, Prophet and Korg synthesizers, but he has said the core musical idea matters more than the tool. Across albums, singles and collaborations, Yotto balances forward motion with melodies that resist a simple emotional label.
