Dark dubstep and the fractured rhythms of heavier bass music meet in MYTHM, the project of Vancouver producer Mikey Miele. Drawing on UK dubstep and riddim, he works with abrasive bass, broken drums and tightly cut vocals, carrying that sound from releases on Deep, Dark & Dangerous and Deadbeats to performances at Shambhala, Lost Lands and Red Rocks. The MYTHM project began in 2019, after visits to Bass Coast and Shambhala in 2017 encouraged Miele to commit to production. Collaboration remains an important strand of his work, including the Questions EP with Hypho. For his 2024 debut album Mind of Madness, however, he kept the production largely to himself, bringing in MCs Slowie and Rakjay while also making room for the drumless, synthesizer-led closing piece “Voices in the Ether.” Its contrast with the album’s heavier tracks reflects his interest in expanding the project without abandoning its low-end foundations. The 2026 Revenge EP on Deep Medi returned to his core 140 BPM sound, with Oracle Grey appearing on “Whispers.”
