Alongside releases on respected international labels and imprints, he continues to study for a degree in sociology. It’s this other side of his life that forms the crux of his interests in dance music. “Taking part in and actually being responsible in building up certain societies which have their own morals and which develop their own behaviour and character makes every club night special to me,” he says. In an age when people are coming to dance music through commercial channels with no grounding in the culture or history of the context in which it blossomed and evolved, it’s refreshing to hear such salient words from an artist in their mid-20s.
Whether he’s making raw, jacking house grooves, deeper, soul-drenched material or Detroit-flavoured workouts, his music is always muscular, intriguing and captivating. House music is his palette, but there are myriad colours within it.
