Current Value makes drum and bass in which sound design is inseparable from the music's identity. Berlin producer Tim Eliot has moved from the dense breakbeats of his early hard-edged records towards more stripped-back neurofunk, retaining an exacting approach to synthesis and percussion throughout. Classical piano training and an audio-engineering background sit behind a career that spans Position Chrome, Blackout, Critical and Invisible.
His musical world is larger than his solo catalogue. With Dean Rodell he works as MachineCode, bringing their interests in drum and bass and techno into a shared project. He has also worked on Björk's Biophilia and its remixes, and reworked music by Noisia and Foreign Beggars.
For Eliot, creating a sound can be as important as arranging the finished track. He has described preferring to build a new drum part for Björk rather than simply supply an existing sample. That interest in making the material itself helps explain both the intensity of his records and his willingness to change the methods behind them.
