Bio

Liuos developed from Jari Österberg’s early-1990s experiments in becoming a one-person electronic band. An Amiga 500 provided the initial means; hardware-led production later moved him towards minimalist techno, before software synthesizers and computer sequencing opened a route into dub techno. Terms, his first EP on Cold Tear Records, remains a personally important release in that long development. Working from Finland, Österberg treats dub techno as a starting point rather than a fixed rulebook. He names Moritz von Oswald, Atheus, Cari Lekebusch and Jori Hulkkonen among his influences, and finds creative prompts in abstract art, abandoned industrial spaces and the natural world. His Seasons Colors EP gives that last interest a concrete form, with tracks organized around the changing seasons. Alongside his solo releases and remixes, Liuos has developed a recurring partnership with Nae:Tek on Superordinate Dub Waves. Their Allium and Quarter projects sit within a catalogue that connects dub techno with minimal and deeper club music. He also contributes DJ mixes, including a Dubbism guest session for Piranha Siberia Dub.
