Doubtingthomas brings a musician’s curiosity to minimal house and techno. Aurélien Rivière began with downtempo, trip-hop and ambient music in the 1990s, later developing a club-facing sound shaped by years in London and Berlin. Now based in Toulouse, he works with influences that include jazz, funk and IDM, combining electronic sequencing with field recordings and acoustic detail.
Live performance is a major part of the project. Drum machines, synthesizers and effects let him reshape his material onstage, with appearances ranging from ReSolute in New York and Mexico’s BPM Festival to Rex Club, Fuse and Australia’s Subsonic. Releases on labels including Safari Electronique and Eastenderz sit alongside a wider composing practice: documentary and television music, art installations and work with Soundwalk Collective on Patti Smith’s Peradam. These activities give his carefully constructed club music a connection to sound beyond the dance floor.
