SMG brings jump-up energy to a minimal drum-and-bass framework. Originally from Southampton and based in Bristol, Jamie Le Brocq developed his production skills at dBs Institute before releasing through Skank & Bass, Onyx and Trust Audio. His official remix of Noisia's Shaking Hands and subsequent work with Critical Music placed him within a wider circle of producers exploring that spare, bass-focused sound.
Critical's Binary series provided a home for Codebreaker and his collaboration with VISLA, while later work with Duskee brought an MC into the picture. Alongside releases and appearances at fabric, he contributes tutorials and sample packs through Sample Genie. Passing on studio techniques has become another part of a career that began with studying them.
