Bio

By his own account, Brian Transeau learned to break rhythm apart as a teenage tape operator in a Rockville, Maryland studio, cutting drum takes into fragments and splicing them back out of sequence. That habit turned into the micro-editing he named the stutter edit, and later into two pieces of software he coded himself and licensed to iZotope: Stutter Edit and the drum sequencer BreakTweaker. The American producer, who bought his first synthesizer, a Roland Juno-106, with money earned mowing lawns as a child, says composing still starts nowhere near a computer, with a melodic figure he carries in his head for days before working it out at piano or acoustic guitar. In 2023 Monstercat issued his album The Secret Language of Trees, pairing every track with an extended producer's cut.
