Bio

Odd Mob is Harry Hope’s outlet for unruly, bass-heavy house music. Based in Brisbane, he treats unusual sounds and playful ideas as useful dancefloor material, moving between original tracks, vocal collaborations, remakes and the bootlegs collected under his Oddities name. The project reached a wide Australian audience with Is It a Banger?, which entered triple j’s Hottest 100 in 2014. Later records broadened that reach, while Left to Right turned a fragment of Soulja Boy’s Crank That into a tightly focused club track. Its circulation among DJs helped connect his Australian following with a growing international audience. Touring has taken him through North America as well as Australian festivals including Beyond the Valley and Groovin the Moo. There is a deliberate lack of solemnity in his studio approach. Discussing Club Rompas, Hope described experimenting with sounds for their immediate effect in a club, without requiring each track to carry a deeper message. Pitched vocals, rumbling bass and unexpected rhythmic details become the substance of the music. Collaborations with artists such as OMNOM, Roland Clark and FAST BOY extend that instinct into different corners of house.
