Justice

Bio

Justice is Tony Bowes, a producer whose work connects early hardcore breakbeats with the more exploratory side of drum and bass. His first studio ambitions were rooted in hip-hop, but the emerging rave scene pushed the rhythms faster and into new forms. Collaboration with Blame was central to that beginning, while the Modern Urban Jazz imprint became an outlet for music that could move beyond established formulas. Aquisse, later included on Viewpoints, remains a key example of his interest in bringing electro ideas into drum and bass. That experimental outlook also informs his work with Metro and his attention to the physical presentation of records and tapes. Alongside production and label work, he has mentored students in music and the arts. His collaboration with Hobzee on Revox continues the dialogue with jazz instrumentation.
