Harpoon found a new direction for his house music when he began making more room for singers. The Australian producer and DJ, Ryan Harper, has spoken about wanting club tracks that people could sing along to, using vocal fragments and recurring bass sounds to develop a recognisable approach. Too Late began as an instrumental in a Darwin hotel room; after a friend added vocals, Harper worked through several versions before settling on the finished track.
Originally from Dubbo and later based on the Gold Coast, he has released music through Toolroom, Tinted and Solotoko, alongside Infinite Summer. Collaborations with singers including Sammi Constantine, Jasmine Stringer and Gem&i keep songs at the centre of that work. Touring has taken him from Australia to Greece, Thailand and Bali, an experience he has described as being as much about meeting people as playing music.
