Ray Mang approaches disco as an open-ended language for the dance floor, drawing boogie, dub, house and Balearic music into his DJ sets and productions. The alias belongs to musician and producer Raj Gupta, also known as Laj. His first Ray Mang twelve-inch, Number One, appeared on Noid in 1996, followed by the launch of his own Mangled label.
His work reaches well beyond solo releases. He has played in Block 16 and Motif, collaborated with the Idjut Boys as Laj, and formed Mang Dynasty with Bill Brewster. Remix commissions have brought him music by Gorillaz, Shirley Bassey, Roxy Music and The Phenomenal Handclap Band. As a DJ, he moves between peak-time club sets and slower outdoor sessions, with appearances at Campo Sancho, Electric Elephant and Brazil's Mareh among his international bookings.
