Before Cab Drivers played live, much of their studio sat in the basement beneath Berlin record shop Melting Point. In a 2016 interview, Daniel Paul and Jens Augustowsky, better known as DJ ZKY, recalled taking the project to E-Werk in 1996 with a van full of hardware controlled from Cubase on an Atari ST2. That hands-on method remains central to the duo’s house music: a Roland TR-909 anchors improvised sessions alongside instruments such as the TB-303, SH-101 and Korg synthesizers, with the performance mixed directly to stereo. Paul and ZKY founded Cabinet Records in 1995, and even the Cab Drivers name grew from the label. Their tightly looped, dub-aware grooves have since appeared through Cabinet, Eclipser Chaser and other independent outlets, while releases such as Get It and the Jijijaja/Camel Toe EP keep their precise, hardware-led approach in circulation.
