Michael Gray was already DJing under-16 discos at twelve, several years after deciding that records would be his life. The British producer later built a long partnership with Jon Pearn as Full Intention, but his best-known solo record began as a forgotten file on a hard drive. Revisiting that sketch, Gray drew on the weekend anticipation in Oliver Cheatham’s Get Down Saturday Night, added the record’s bright Moog-led hook and tested a white-label version in Ibiza in 2003. The Weekend received its full release the following year and opened a distinct solo chapter alongside his duo work. Gray’s catalogue has continued through vocal house, disco-rooted remixes and releases for labels including Eye Industries, Sultra, Glitterbox and Toolroom. Universe, issued by Toolroom in 2026, shows that the line from early mobile discos to current club production remains active rather than archival.
