Biografía

Funk E’s bass-led club music carries a trace of the hip-hop culture in which he first learned to DJ. Emerging from Romania’s post-communist scene, he moved towards techno in the early 2000s, developing a taste for long sets and tightly worked grooves. A move to Ibiza in 2004 opened another chapter: residencies at The Zoo Project and Underground brought his music to an international crowd, while Bucharest’s afterparties remained an important connection. The island’s quieter winters gave him time to experiment in the studio. Beginning around 2008, he adapted an E-mu MP7 hip-hop groovebox to making techno, developing productions in which the bass and drums do much of the talking. Great Empty Circle, launched in 2015, gave him an independent outlet for that work and for aliases including Bhikkhu and Marvin Gain. Collaboration is another part of his practice, notably through Getic Funk with Xandru and Pitik. Across those settings, his focus stays on rhythm: music that can be spare in construction while remaining restless and alive on the floor.
