Biografía

Makoto is a London-based Japanese DJ and producer whose drum and bass carries a strong sense of soul, jazz and musical warmth. He came to wider attention through LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking Records in the late 1990s and has since developed a substantial body of singles, albums and collaborations. Golden Girl with MC Conrad is a landmark in that history, while his work with DJ Marky and releases for Hospital have extended his connection with the international scene. Collaboration is a central part of his music, not simply a feature of individual singles. On Tomodachi Sessions, every track was made with a friend from his career, bringing singers and fellow producers into a shared musical space. His version of Spread Love with Pete Simpson took another route, rebuilding the song with newly recorded strings, guitars and backing vocals. Makoto described the intention as making something warm and positive while acknowledging the versions that inspired him. His own Human Elements imprint provides an additional home for that musical outlook, alongside continuing releases for labels including Liquicity.
