Biografía

Rona Ray once found the first line of a song in an unlikely place: the image of a cartoon suspect tiptoeing away from the Pink Panther’s inspector. That visual became the starting point for “Forest Gump,” one of the tracks on Take Me Home, her 2024 collaborative album with Dominican producer Ezel. Ray, a Russian singer and songwriter working largely in vocal and soulful house, has explained that she responds closely to the architecture of an instrumental; changes in Ezel’s arrangements would prompt new turns in her melodies and lyrics. Her wider catalogue applies that instinct to many different partners. On “Warning” with Terry Hunter, Reelsoul and DJ Spen, she wrote, recorded and performed the vocal, while releases with Prunk, Franck Roger, Pat Bedeau and Marc Brauner place her voice across deep, classic and soulful house settings. Whether writing from a playful image or a more unsettled personal moment, Ray treats the vocal as part of the groove rather than decoration laid over it.
