John Askew has spent three decades exploring the harder, more percussive edge of trance. A former rock guitarist converted by a rave in Cornwall, he developed his sound through the UK’s underground party circuit before helping establish Discover, the label that became an important early home for John O’Callaghan and Sean Tyas. His later work with Perfecto and Perfecto Fluoro, and the creation of VII, extended that role as both an artist and a supporter of other producers.

Long sets are central to his idea of DJing. Askew values the hours before a room reaches full intensity as much as the peak, using that space to move through different eras and styles and build trust with the crowd. He marked thirty years behind the decks with a seven-hour set at fabric, drawing on records from across his career. His production remains equally hands-on: tracks are repeatedly tested at gigs and adjusted afterwards. Alongside his solo work, he partners with Activa as AA Meeting, bringing another collaborative voice to his uncompromising approach to trance.
