Biografía

Charles Webster is revered as the producer’s producer, he was at the forefront of the halcyon years of deep house from 1990, working with vocal talents like Terra Deva, Robert Owens, Shara Nelson and Tracey Thorn. He moved to San Francisco in 1993, starting the labels Love From San Francisco and Remote but it was his early albums (firstly recorded under the alias Presence) “All Systems Gone” and under his own name “Born on the 24th of July” which would prove to have the greatest legacy. Praised at the time, in fact, the “pillowy” sound design of these subtle classics is cited as a key influence on his music by Burial. For “Decision Time” Burial contributed a rare co-production “The Second Spell'' which also features poetry legend and Prince muse Ingrid Chavez. Charles is also a foundational influence on the South African house scene, the Presence single “Better Day” was a radio hit in SA in 1997. “Decision Time” was Charles’ first major solo record since 2001. With an album of this quality and the 20-year cycles of electronic culture, it feels like this is the perfect moment to celebrate the brilliance of his legacy. Storytelling and song writing has always been important for Charles, From the downtempo impressionistic soul of “This Is Real” to the emotive “The Spell” a new generation of ears deserve to discover the influential sound world of Charles Webster. In late 2025 Charles released ‘From The Hill’. He is currently working on a new Charles Webster album.
