Biografía
Aera follows intuition through house, techno and less club-bound electronic music. The producer and DJ Ralf Schmidt places melody and unusual arrangements at the centre of his work, allowing ideas to develop without forcing them into a fixed formula. His fascination with electronic sound began in childhood, exploring the rhythms and arpeggios of an electric organ.
That curiosity has found several outlets. Alongside releases on Innervisions, Permanent Vacation, Maeve and Hivern Discs, he has established his own labels, Aleph Music and Applied Magic. Albums such as The Sound Path give his music a wider frame, while Versions revisits earlier work through a different mix concept.
Now based in Málaga after a long association with Berlin, Schmidt continues to balance independent label activity with collaborations and remixes. The records share a musical identity without asking every idea to serve the same kind of dancefloor.
