S.P.Y moves between the soul and atmosphere of drum and bass and the raw physical character of jungle. Brazilian-born Carlos Lima has built a substantial recording history through Metalheadz, Innerground, Critical and Hospital Records, with albums including What the Future Holds, Back to Basics and Dubplate Style. His DJ career reaches festivals such as Glastonbury, Tomorrowland, EDC and Dour, while remix work includes Goldie, deadmau5 and Rag'n'Bone Man.
Based in Bristol, he remains closely engaged with the craft and history behind the music. For Dubplate Style, he sought out conversations and studio time with figures including Fabio, Total Science, Dom & Roland and Bizzy B. The aim was to understand the character of early jungle without polishing away the rough edges that made it compelling.
Dubplate Style also developed into an events series. His later label, DARKMTTR, created room for his own productions, collaborations and guest artists. Together, those projects give S.P.Y ways to contribute beyond the next release, linking his studio work to the records, people and dancefloors that shaped it.
