Chad Dubz’s work starts with the sound system: deep bass, physical pressure and the space around a rhythm. The Bristol-based DJ and producer first encountered dubstep at a Subdub/Exodus night in Leeds in 2006, then began collecting records, DJing and making tracks the following year.
In 2013 he founded Foundation Audio to give more exposure to underground producers, developing a roster that includes Teffa, Somah, Causa and RSD. He also established CRUD Recordings, while his own productions have appeared on Deep Medi, Wheel & Deal, Boka and Infernal Sounds. Collaborations with LOTU are a recurring part of that studio work.
Radio provides another outlet for his selection. His Foundation Audio programme on SWU spans dubstep, dubwise music, grime and other bass-heavy sounds, placing new productions alongside guests from the wider scene. Records such as Shutdown carry the same priorities back to the dancefloor, with tracks made to come into focus through a substantial sound system.
