Biografie
Steve O'Sullivan is a producer and live artist whose work explores the meeting point of dub techno, minimal house and subtle rhythmic movement. His Mosaic label has been a central part of that history, releasing his own productions alongside music by Paul Mac, Aubrey, Mark Broom and Mark Ambrose. Bluetrain and Green give room to his deeper dub interests, while Bluespirit introduced a housier strand and collaborations with Ben Sims, Lee Grainge and Russ Gabriel.
The distinctions reflect an unusually attentive relationship with records. O'Sullivan has identified Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus as major influences, while the swing of Octave One and the stripped-back approach of Tan Ru encouraged other directions in his own production. Rhythm & Sound offered a link between the dub records he admired and an electronic framework.
His catalogue also reaches Sushitech, and his live performances provide another setting for music built around gradual development rather than large gestures. Across the labels and aliases, his work keeps returning to the expressive possibilities of a small change: a shift in a groove, an echo or a little more space around the rhythm.
