Shogun

Biografie

Shogun makes trance around the emotional reach of a melody. Andrew Chen's early listening included Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers, before the music of Armin van Buuren and Gouryella drew him towards a more uplifting sound. He has compared a strong trance track to a film that carries its audience through a story, an idea that helps explain the expansive melodies and vocal focus of his work. His relationship with Armada and its S107 and Armind labels brought productions such as Skyfire, Save Me and Lotus into the wider trance circuit. Alongside that studio work, a residency at Ministry of Sound in Taipei gave him experience warming up for visiting DJs, including Tiësto and Paul Oakenfold. Performances at A State of Trance and Ultra followed. Across those settings, his music keeps melody and emotional release at the centre of the club experience.
