In a 2021 interview, Sasha Carassi described his first studio as a bedroom with poor acoustics and a decidedly hands-on chain: an Atari ST running Cubase 1.0, a Yamaha 03D mixer, an Akai S950 sampler and a Tascam DAT recorder. The Naples producer had already learned the pull of record selection at his cousins’ turntables and became a resident at Dinamik Area at sixteen. Those beginnings still echo in a process that resists fixed templates. Carassi has said a track may start with a sample, a sound caught in a film or a melody in his head, then take shape through improvisation; his reference points extend across funk, soul, rock, house, techno and breakbeat. In 2021 he created ILINX as a home for that freedom, deliberately separating it from rigid genre rules. The label’s catalogue later grew from his Blackness launch release to the 2026 album The Skin of Time, where his own contributions sit among performances by Aquarius Heaven, Robert Owens and other guests.
