Nes Mburu brings songwriting as well as a distinctive vocal presence to Afro house. Based in Nairobi, the Kenyan singer works in English, Swahili and Kikuyu, creating lyrics, melodies and harmonies in collaboration with producers. His songs draw on everyday experiences of love, singing and dancing, with a strong connection to his cultural background. Peperuke with Alex Wann and Milélé with Touzani are among the records that introduced his voice to international dance audiences. Other partnerships include Wimbo with Danidane and Lüca Veron on Adesso Music, alongside releases through MoBlack, One People and Madorasindahouse. Mburu often begins by listening for a melody inside a producer's instrumental, developing a phrase into the centre of the song. His role is that of a writing partner, not simply a voice added to a finished track.
