Marvellous Cain helped shape ragga jungle through records such as The Hitman and Dub Plate Style, bringing reggae sound-system culture into the music's rapid breakbeats. His background includes the Kathmandu sound system and the reggae, ska and soca he heard growing up. Rave DJing led into jungle, releases for I.Q. and Suburban Base, and the 1996 album Gun Talk.
The original Hitman came from a modest setup: Cain recalls an Atari computer and an Ensoniq sampler with only about twenty seconds of sampling time. Later remixes by producers including Bladerunner and Nicky Blackmarket brought new interpretations of that early work.
Alongside his own productions, Cain developed Runninz and later Yardrock. Performances at Boomtown and Outlook connect that recording history with an ongoing DJ career rooted in sound-system music.
