Biografie

Chainsnatcher is a Los Angeles-based DJ and producer rooted in Chicago house, with hip-hop, soul and R&B informing his sense of rhythm. Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak are key reference points, but his sets move between house, techno, disco and garage according to the room. Swing and vocal phrasing matter as much as a track’s genre. He began playing vinyl in the mid-1990s rave scene and later spent part of his career in China. Studio work has developed through the Die Familia partnership as well as his solo productions, with releases on Purveyor Underground, Late Night Jackin’, Groovphoria and Brobot. The solo Chi-Town Anthem EP makes the Chicago connection explicit, while his wider output brings together chopped vocals, rounded basslines and tightly worked percussion. Chainsnatcher describes DJing as a matter of pacing and connection: knowing when to stay with a sound and when to open the set out, without making the performance more important than the music.
