Bio

Omar Santana's music carries the cut-and-rebuild instincts of New York hip-hop into hardcore, acid and breakbeat. He began DJing with the Dynamic Rockers crew in Queens, inspired by the city's early-1980s club culture and John 'Jellybean' Benitez's sets at the Funhouse. Connections with Arthur Baker and the Tommy Boy and Sleeping Bag circles brought him into studio work, where editing became a defining skill. His credits grew across hip-hop and pop, including work involving Mantronix, Public Enemy and Janet Jackson. As rave music took shape, Santana channelled that rhythmic imagination into harder sounds, developing the acid-laced breakbeat approach known as hardhop alongside his hardcore productions. Aliases such as Liquid Metal and New York Terrorists offered further outlets for those experiments. He founded H2OH to release his own vision of hardcore and followed it with Tricked Out, focused on hardhop and breaks. His Moonshine mixes carried these sounds to a wider audience, while collaborations with other producers kept the music connected to its DJ roots. Now based in Denver, Santana links several generations of dance music through an enduring interest in what happens when beats are cut apart and rebuilt.
