David LeSal works with the speaking voice as a musical instrument. The Brooklyn-based vocalist writes and performs material that can range from a short club hook to a longer spoken scene, drawing on character, rhythm and delivery rather than conventional singing alone. After building a recording career in Dutch hardstyle through work with Headhunterz, he adopted the LeSal identity to explore house and techno more directly.
His vocals have appeared on releases connected with Toolroom, REALM, The Myth of NYX and JEAHMON!. Brooklyn on Acid with Marc DePulse gives the work a personal setting, turning a rooftop scene from his former neighbourhood into a narrative. His professional description also makes room for hip-hop-influenced passages and poetic storytelling. The essential studio tools are simple—a microphone and headphones—but the writing begins with a pen and paper.
