Isaac Maya connects reggae’s sound-system tradition with the speed and impact of jungle. Based in Mexico City, he began DJing in the late 1990s before moving into production, working with rolling breaks, substantial basslines and reggae vocals. Daddy Freddy, Warrior Queen, King Shadrock and the Ragga Twins are among the voices that have appeared on his records.
LowFreqMX, the label he founded in 2009, extends that work beyond his own studio. It releases producers from Mexico and abroad, creating a meeting point for reggae, dub and drum and bass. His collaborations with the UK’s Reggae Roast, including a remix of Rockin’ Dubs and a Soundsystem Sessions mix, reflect the same musical connection. Maya’s work as a producer, selector and label owner is closely tied to bringing jungle and reggae audiences into the same room.
