DJ Emerson makes driving techno in which groove and rhythmic movement remain important even at its hardest. His early DJ work in southern Germany passed through breakbeat before a booking at Munich's Ultraschall and touring with Tanith helped open a wider club circuit. He later developed a Berlin-based career with releases on CLR, Desolat and 100% Pure.
Kiddaz.fm and Micro.fon, which he helped establish, gave him room to shape releases as well as produce them. His hands-on approach is clear in Repetitiv Music: he wrote the album digitally in Ableton, then took it to a friend's studio for mixing through Pro Tools and analogue equipment. Releasing it himself also meant overseeing mastering, artwork and presentation. Sets at Tresor, Sisyphos and Tanzhaus West document the club side of a career that extends into the less visible work behind a finished record.
