The Upbeats combine the physical force of drum and bass with a willingness to follow ideas well beyond a single club sound. Jeremy Glenn and Dylan Jones met at school in Wellington, New Zealand, and built a production partnership that accommodates both heavy festival material and more introspective music. Their sets reflect the same broad appetite, with appearances at events including Glastonbury, Shambhala, Outlook and Boomtown.
A close relationship with Noisia has been central to their recorded history. Vision released albums including Primitive Technique and Not Forever, while the two acts collaborated on Dead Limit. Studio time together also became a way to exchange production techniques and explore new tools. The Upbeats’ work with artists such as Ivy Lab, Halogenix and Shapeshifter extends that collaborative character. Their identity rests on the range between those different settings: detailed studio music, energetic performance and a readiness to let contrasting ideas into the same project.
