Sinister Souls moves through the heavier ends of drum and bass, dubstep and hardcore with an emphasis on direct dance-floor impact. The project began in Utrecht in 2009 as a collaboration between Fred Meijer and Adriaan de Koning. Since 2018, Meijer has carried it forward alone, keeping the original name while developing the music in his own direction. PRSPCT has been a central label home across both periods, and performances at Rampage, Let It Roll, Darkshire and Blackout reflect the project’s place in the harder bass-music circuit. For Chronicles, Volume I, Meijer invited producers including Zardonic, Merikan and Counterstrike to reinterpret earlier material. He asked for versions at tempos he could play in his own sets, keeping the remix project connected to the practical demands of performing the music.
