David Forbes moves between the harder and more melodic sides of trance, drawing on a career that began in Scotland's rave circuit. The Glasgow-based DJ and producer held a residency at Hanger 13 before building a recording history that includes Questions Must Be Asked and releases through VANDIT, Subculture, Perfecto and Armada. His Aria labels provide an independent outlet alongside those relationships.
Different aliases have allowed him to follow different musical instincts. Hal Stucker gives space to more melodic ideas, with Tycho among his stated influences, while his own-name work includes both tech trance and uplifting collaborations with singers such as Sue McLaren.
Forbes remains deeply involved in the studio and international trance events, including A State of Trance. Despite the experience behind him, he has described the nerves that still accompany playing there.
