Bio

Sansibar came to electronic music through the physical experience of a club, not a plan to become a DJ. Sunny Seppä had been playing punk and metal with friends, teaching himself bass, drums and guitar, when a conversation with a booker at Helsinki's Kaiku led to an invitation to play. He owned records but had not yet thought of mixing them for a room. That first opportunity developed into a residency. Kaiku and Post Bar gave him space to experiment, and that openness runs through his productions. Electro, trance, breakbeats and techno can meet within the same set or record; his interest is in how they fit together and how people respond. The album Sans Musique on Kalahari Oyster Cult brings several of those directions into one release, while collaborations with Reptant and his own Sin Sistema outlet extend the possibilities. His performances have since reached clubs including Nowadays in New York and Video Club in Bogotá, carrying a musical outlook developed through Helsinki's dancefloors.
