Bio

Tabia is the singing and songwriting project of Thembeka Khumalo, whose work brings soul, jazz and gospel experience into Afro-house and Afro-tech collaborations. She began her professional journey as a backing vocalist for Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse before developing her own songs, releasing The Journey in 2018. Rather than confining herself to one genre, she places the meaning of a song at the centre of her approach. That openness has taken her into collaborations with Black Motion, Leo Guardo and other electronic producers, with her voice also appearing on Xinka’s Kuqala. Spirituality and personal experience are central to her solo work: on Untold Stories and the single Syabuza, she explores vulnerability, self-acceptance and reconnection with her ancestors.
