Bio
Pushing the boundaries of techno music since 2006, French DJ and producer Paul Ritch has remained at the cutting edge of big-room electronics ever since he first stepped into the scene. His sound, sitting at the junction of heavy-duty traction and mind-expanding escapology opens views onto a bristling headspace, intuitively moving the cursor between weatherbeaten industrialism and ayahuasca-fueled spiritualism.
A true multi-faceted artist whose singular coherence resides in the width of his scope, Paul carries on crafting pieces of sound that defy the tacit norms and conventions of techno’s highly codified realm, decidedly impervious to the usual traps and trending pigeonholes. As a testimony to Paul’s constant evolution, which has seen him grace imprints as diverse as Adam Beyer’s Drumcode, Wagon Repair, Get Physical or Modularz, his own record label Quartzrec tells the tale of his ever-changing persona to a tee.
Over these nearly two decades of unrelenting floor activism, Paul has been serving up a sound both exhilarating and chameleonic in equal measure, weaving his own narrative arc at the very confines of classic 909-powered wares, modular innovation and hardcore-informed extrapolations, as attested by his sorties as KOLO55, or dabbling into ambient sonic experimentation and left-of-centre astral projections with his other side-project, Kaczmarek.
His sole full-length release to day under his own name, ’Substance’ (Revolt), was released in 2022 and certainly finds Ritch at his most compellingly inspired and metamorphic, juggling effortlessly between deluges of choppy uptempo and deep-diving swoops into murky, borderline hostile terrains and long-lost mythologies.
Having played the most well-known clubs and festivals around, including usual suspects Berghain, Fabric, Awakenings, Monegros et al., Paul has stacked the kind of DJing versatility and savoir-faire few can boast bringing to the table. Always ahead of the curve with his eyes set on the horizon, Paul Ritch has managed to carve out a vein of music truly and absolutely his own.
