About Altruism

Bio

Altruism is the production project of Thatha, whose connection with psytrance began in Brazil’s underground scene in 1999. Years of vinyl DJing came before she started releasing her own music under the name, and that dancefloor experience remains an important part of the project: she performs both DJ sets as Thatha and live sets as Altruism. Since joining Nano Records in 2011, she has taken that music to festivals including Boom, Ozora, Universo Paralello and Fusion. Her studio interests combine a strong focus on rhythm with a background in piano. In a Nano interview, she explained how learning the instrument helped her work with synths and virtual instruments, while drums were a particular source of fascination. The title Endless Smile came from a studio filter plug-in, but also expressed the positive feeling she wanted the track to carry. It is a revealing detail in a project that connects the technical work of psytrance production with the pleasure of sharing it with a crowd.
