Chaosy

Following his two ambitious self-released albums, Standard Deviation is proud to present  KATAKOMBA – a 6 track mini album that comes together as a meditative exercise on the subjects of mysticism and desolation by Ukrainian cross-genre artist Chaosy. Choosy’s third album is an expressive and multifaceted work that weaves together a unique strain of black metal-post punk-electronics with a tenor of esotericism. ‘I spend a lot of time observing the world around me, and, for some reason, it’s the darkness of it all that inspires me most’ – says Bogdan. He describes writing music as a natural instinct, almost a need: 

‘Working on this album was sort of a trance-like experience. I just followed my intuition and, to be honest, I didn’t really think about the processes. When I was finished, everything just fell into place. It felt like coming back from a dark trip’.

KATAKOMBA offers a broad spectrum of influences that range from Electro and IDM (Joomangy In Da Hurashami) to Electro-infused Punk (Shaolean, BlackBoat, Wrestling of Sleeping Minds, Borderline) and Post-Punk (Solstice). The state of saudade, evoked by the bursts of fragile voice lines and electric guitars is presents throughout the entire album and finds final manifestation in the epilogue track ‘Solstice’.
  
KATAKOMBA is aggressive, yet melancholic. It’s a heady experience into a previously unexplored direction for Standard Deviation, but just a glimpse into what the more gritty side of Kyiv’s underground has to offer and what is to come yet.
