"Das Projekt Red On um Labelmacher, Produzent und DJ Philipp Roth bleibt konstant im Wandel. So standen zuletzt vermehrt interdisziplinäre Kollaborationen und größere Live-Formate im Fokus – unter anderem mit VJ Subrihanna. Bild und Ton als gemeinsamer Moment. Ein Untersuchen der Grenzen zwischen Club, Popmusik und audiovisueller Installation. Bereits im Juni gaben im Rahmen der »It Isn‘t Happening Transmission« Reihe drei Live-Videos einen ersten Einblick in die aktuelle Arbeitsweise und verrieten Red On’s verstärktes Interesse an akustischem Schlagzeug und gelayerten Rhythmen. Mit der neuen Single erscheint nun endlich auch neues Studio-Material vom für Herbst 2021 geplanten Album »Drums«. »Ordinary Ghosts« bleibt untypischer Weise unter vier Minuten und ist mit der einnehmenden Stimme von Jana Sotzko (Soft Grid, Point No Point, Halfsilks) eher krautiger Indie-Song als experimentelle Elektronik. Sie singt »If you believe in the Future, you might as well believe in all of this here« und lässt uns mit unseren Ghosts irgendwo zwischen euphorischer Hoffnung und Dystopie sitzen. Drum herum vor allem Drums (klar) und ein vertrauter Haufen von Red On’s Instrumentarium: Rhodes, Tape-Echo, Gitarre, Claps und Drones. Warm, melancholisch, verspult – Mehr Red On than ever. Laute Krautrock-Posse, ein Jazz-Trio, oder sehr konzentrierte Geräusch-Musik.
