Bio

Axel Karakasis entered electronic music from the DJ booth, but a desire to play records no one else owned pulled him into production. The Athens artist began DJing in 1989, after years of fascination with synthetic sound, and was producing by the late 1990s. In a 2005 interview he traced his influences from Kraftwerk and New Order to Derrick May, Jeff Mills and Claude Young; he also credited Marco Bailey’s Pornographic label with opening the door to his first release. Karakasis later described his own approach as groovy techno—music that combines force with movement rather than treating hardness as the only goal. In 2007 he founded Remain Records, subsequently extending it through the Remain Limited catalogue.
