Everyday Mysteries Part 3 features a collaboration with Lloyd Barwood along with a remix from Nolan. The theme of part 3 is based around how our brain processes memories and moments, in particular ones that make us feel distressed or uncomfortable. 1§ Disturbing memories can be stored in the brain in isolation, they get locked into the nervous system with the original images, sounds, thoughts and feelings involved. The old distressing material keeps getting triggered repeatedly. This prevents learning/healing from taking place. In another part of your brain, you already have most of the information you need to resolve this, it is difficult to connect the two parts of the brain together. Creativity or therapy can help link the two sides of the brain and new information can come to mind and resolve the old problems. All the tracks on this EP have helped me process some of my old memories through connecting the right and left hemispheres of my brain. The first two tracks were built using the various textures and modulation within the make noise spectraphon, the module has a left and right functionality and connecting them and recording the results was almost a carbon copy of how my brain was also processing my memories, thoughts and feelings. The collaboration with Lloyd had a similar feel and after I sent him my ideas for the track, he added so much emotion and depth and called me to explain how the experience was for him, a quote from Lloyd below provides context to his experience. Quote from Lloyd Barwood “Shortly after Alex shared with me the musical idea for the collaborative, I had received some sad and disappointing news, I found the creative input I offered into the track became part of the healing process for my sadness at the time. The result is something I am truly proud of and out of all the music I have written this track is one I feel most connected with due to the healing that took place”. Big thanks to Nolan for his excellent remix and to Lloyd for supporting the label and his honesty on how the creative process helped him deal with a moment in his life. There will be future collabs with Lloyd on the label going forwards.
